Among the Masters: One Gold, Two Silver at the Housatonic

October 8/Shelton, CT:  Some of the NBC’s masters made the trek south to the wilds of western Connecticut. The Head of the Housatonic winds its way over a three mile course that starts in Shelton and finishing in Derby. NBC’s Carol Browning and Bob Eldridge proved that age, with lots of training, has its advantages as they took first place in the Masters Doubles with their adjusted time of 16:00.2. About an hour before this race, Bob also finished third in the Men’s 1X (50-59) with a time of 18:16.3. Bob Hannon was in the same event finishing seventh with a time of 18:56.0.

Rowing in the Masters 2X Men, Eric Watne and John Cotter finished third in 15:25.2. Ed Geyh and Dave Rand finished very close behind in the same event with a fifth place finish of 15:35.3. Rounding out the rest of the NBC contingent were Alden Bumstead and Sarah Cussler who finished 4th with a time of 17:00.5 in the 2X Masters Women. Dawn Nardone and Joan Martin were a little farther back finishing 10th with a time of 18:26.3.

This regatta has an almost ideal setting with sandy boat launching off a long beach and usually sheltered waters. The New Haven Rowing Club does a great job managing the crowds. If you would like to review the full results, Google HereNOW and then select the name of the regatta.
