U23 World Rowing Championships: EMILY & ELIZA 4TH

Rotterdam, The Netherlands/August 26:  Sisters Emily and Eliza Kallfelz [Click on each name for their photo and individual profile] finished fourth in the final of the women’s double sculls racing against from Belarus, Great Britain, Romania, Germany and Denmark. Emily and Eliza rowed a base stroke of 31 for the first 1000m and then bumped up the rating to 32-33 for through the last 1000. They were in fourth place throughout most of the race. Meanwhile Great Britain, the winner, rowed slightly higher, held the second place position in the first 1000m and then moved into the lead going through the third five hundred. Congratulations to both Emily and Eliza. They were three seconds away from gaining a bronze medal. Eliza has one more race to go in the Junior Women’s Singles on Sunday. Finishing times: 1st Great Britain, 7:23.46; 2nd Belarus, 7:29.26; 3rd Romania, 7:31.22; 4th USA (Emily and Eliza/NBC), 7:34.00; 5th Germany, 7:40.84; 6th Denmark, 7:43.02. Coming up tomorrow is Jack Luby (Barrington, R.I.) in the JM1X Semi Final at 11:10 AM RIDST versus Switzerland, Lithuania, Brazil, Belarus, and Croatia. Top three move on to the A Final; bottom three to the B Final both on Sunday. Also, racing again is Eliza Kallfelz in the JW1X Semi Final at 11:45 AM RIDST versus Sweden, Netherlands, Italy, France, and China. Once again the top three advance to the A Final; bottom three to the B Final, both on Sunday. Check the times yourself on line to make certain these are correct in terms of Rhode Island time.
